Fox drops drama based on charge against Justice Thomas
Article Abstract:
Fox Television scrapped a television drama based on a book called "Strange Justice." The book is about the sexual harassment charges against Clarence Thomas. Several industry insiders said that Rupert Murdoch, chairman of the News Corporation, Fox's owner, objected to the project after reading the book. "Strange Justice" was written by two reporters for The Wall Street Journal and published in 1994. The reporters concluded that Anita F. Hill was telling the truth in making the charges during Senate hearings on Thomas's nomination to the Supreme Court. One person close to the situation said that Murdoch told an associate that Thomas was a friend of his, and Thomas had been railroaded in the confirmation hearings.

Steps planned by magazine to lift profit
Article Abstract:
The Reader's Digest Association plans to improve a poor performance by laying off several hundred employees, selling 39 paintings from its valuable collection and reducing its generous dividend by 75 percent. The company is unclear how many employees will be laid off. The dividend cut will impact an array of cultural and educational institutions that have benefited from the publisher's past earnings. The company is trying to appeal to a younger audience as its main audience of older readers is declining.
