GM is closing rest of North American operations
Article Abstract:
General Motors Corp. is taking action to close the rest of its North American operations in the wake of two local strikes in Michigan. As negotiations with the United Auto Workers to end the strikes by 9,200 workers in Flint, Michigan remain unproductive, a memo titled "Aggressive Manufacturing Shut Down" and signed by five senior manufacturing executives was given to managers in North America. The directive is to conserve cash by halting all operations except those related to the launch of the company's new full-size pickup truck.
