Games you can play even if you're not Beavis or Butt-head
Article Abstract:
A variety of well-designed computer games, including Sanctuary Woods' $70 Buried in Time, Epic MegaGames' free Epic Pinball and Interplay Productions' $40 Virtual Pool, operate seamlessly on Windows-based computers and do not require huge time requirements for setup and mastery. Many computer game software developers refuse to develop applications for either Windows or Macintosh because they claim that these systems place too many restrictions on game design. Most games are developed for the ancient DOS operating system, and they require difficult and lengthy modifications to a system's configuration. But some computer games such as Sanctuary Woods' Buried in Time are well-designed, available for both Windows and Mac, and are fun to play. Buried in Time is a three CD-ROM time travel adventure game that includes realistic videos and animations. Epic MegaGames' Epic Pinball game, available for free from CompuServe and America Online, is an outstanding and exciting virtual pinball game.

Two new programs are bringing changes to desktop publishing
Article Abstract:
Design Intelligence's $99 to $149 i publish and Broderbund Software's $40 PressWriter are two new desktop publishing packages for Windows 95 that are challenging Microsoft's Publisher position in the market. PressWriter is aimed at small businesses. Its design is based on the assumption that construction will be done from blocks of text and pictures. 1,000 quotes and a wide varity of art is included in PressWriter. i publish is extremely quick and easy to use. Documents can be created for either Web sites or paper, but the varity of documents that i publish can create is more limited than either PressWriter or Publisher. The user interface on i publish is unusual in that it splits the screen in two and one side is basically a Web browser. The way documents are built on i publish is unique in that it uses intelligent components.
