German rightist parties surge in states' voting
Article Abstract:
Right-wing parties were successful in two state elections held Apr 5, 1992, in Germany. The rightist Republican party received about 11% of the vote in Baden-Wurttemberg. The rightist German People's Union was successful in Schleswig-Holstein.

German foreign minister Genscher resigns

German foreign minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher will resign in May 1992. Klaus Kinkel was named the next foreign minister after members of the Free Democratic Party opposed the initial nomination of Irmgard Schwaetzer.
