Global business - experiences of a virtual conference
Article Abstract:
A global video conference was held between 180 participants who were situated around the world. Between 20 and 30 people watched a screen at each base and the groups had someone acting as facilitator, plus a person for technical support. The first day began at 9.00 a.m. British time and finished at 5.00 p.m.. Good organisation and timing are vital if video conferencing is to work effectively. Making it fun is also important to make up for the lack of real contact between people. There were savings in time and cost but the process itself is expensive.
