Globalstar declares its ability to raise much-needed cash

Although Wall Street is concerned about the lack of Globalstar's operating profits, the telecommunications company has assured analysts that it will have no problem raising the funds needed. Globalstar's stock price has dropped almost 90% since the beginning of the year and has had mush competition from companies like Iridium and ICO Global Communications. Loral Space & Communications Ltd., founder of Globalstar, stated that it will not bail the company out if it gets into more financial trouble.

Qualcomm reports $44.5 million loss, forecasts growth

Qualcomm Inc. is hit with a $44.5 million net fourth-quarter loss, 6 cents a share and revenue at $651 million (analysts predicted $692 millioni). The company reports that it would have 20-cent-a-share earnings excluding charges relating to investment in Globalstar Telecommunications. Qualcomm was also hit by its decision not to accrue interest on loans by Mexican company, Pegaso which is awaiting a possible merger. Qualcomm predicts revenue would rise between 5% and 10% in its fourth quarter.
