On beyond quango: the evolution of business-government cooperation in Northern Ireland
Article Abstract:
The Industrial Development Board (IDB) of Northern Ireland has developed a successful model for cooperation between business and government in industrial development. The IDB model is based on a design for accountability, establishing credible leadership, the arrangement of personnel, adapting a business-compatible decision-making style, and networking with (and for) the business community. IDB is in the process of evolving a strategy that meets the dual needs of business and government. The possible extension of the IDB model to the United States, as well as to smaller nations and regions, is examined.
