Article Abstract:
The reasons for the rise and fall in the profits of Australia's top 1000 companies are discussed. Some of the companies had biggest revenue falls in 2002-03 due to the exposure to the international economy but the strange performance of some sectors showed the effect of the prevailing economic condition that could guide investor to benefit from the strongest sectors and avoid emerging weak spots.

Corporate shoppers heading overseas
Article Abstract:
A survey of Australian companies revealed potential boom in mergers and acquisitions and a probable flow on for the domestic equities market as Australian investors are prepared to finance the deals. Some of the results include, 68% of the companies considering overseas opportunities to pursue growth, 74% had an active program of identifying and assessing acquisition opportunities.

The significance of effective business models for business success is discussed. A case study of failed business model of SkyNetGlobal Ltd., which reported net proft loss of $18.2 million for 2004-05, is presented.
