Pension simplification: touch everyone
Article Abstract:
Proposed legislation aims to simplify rules for tax-favored qualified retirement plans. Major provisions expand access to 401(k) and SEP plans, liberalize mandatory distribution and rollover rules, and create new rules for discrimination testing. The proposed bills are: S. 612 - Bentsen-Roth Individual Retirement Account (IRA) bill, H.R. 2730 - Pension Access and Simplification Act of 1991, S. 1364/H.R 2741 - Employee Benefit Simplification and Expansion Act of 1991, and H.R. 2641 - Employee Benefit Simplification Act of 1991. Bipartisan support in Congress and official backing from the Bush Administration is expected to pave the way for the passage of some form of pension simplification legislation.

Health care reform - a closer look
Article Abstract:
There has been much discussion on whether health care should be delivered through employer-provided mandated care or through a national health care system, for greater accessibility and better cost control. However, proposals for health care reform based on these two approaches may not be effective because both do not adequately address long-term costs. An alternative approach is proposed: a health care system that is paid for and managed by the individuals themselves. This system would encourage cost management, and permit competition and free enterprise between insurers and consumers.
