The CMA on campus
Article Abstract:
The Certified Management Accountant (CMA) program is being promoted to both students and faculty in university campuses through the efforts of the Institute of Management Accountants and the Institute of Certified Management Accountants. Data from the Hasselback Accounting Faculty Directory show that there is still an urgent need to market the CMA to 304 colleges where there is not a single CMA-accredited faculty member, and also to the 181 schools with only one CMA faculty each. The promotion of the CMA to students is through the special half-price discounted rate given to senior and graduate students the first time they take the exam. The accreditaton of the CMA designation by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business has also helped increase the visibility of CMA on campus.

Interviews with original CMAs
Article Abstract:

Whether in the corporate envrionment or in the academe, the six CMAs all expressed appreciation for the contributions of the certification to their careers. The CMAs revealed that the exam gave them credibility, placed a greater focus on their career directions, and enhanced their skills regarding both technical and current events issues relating to managerial accounting. These six accountants are Dennis R. Beresford, Clark Johnson, Gary Luoma, Alfred King, Jerry Ford and Keith Bryant.

A new beginning for the CMA program
Article Abstract:
The Board of Regents of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants developed a long-range plan to enroll 80,000 certified management accountants (CMA) in the National Association of Accountants by 2000 and to renew the NAA's commitment to the CMA program. Among the changes made in the CMA program was a revision in the format of the CMA exam, resulting in a two-day, four-part test. A transition plan was developed that would allow CMA candidates who had begun to take the old version of the test to complete the new version. The changes to the test will be made in Dec 1990, and promotion of the program will begin in Jun 1990.
