Heuristics in an air pollution control cost model: the 'AIRCOST' model of the electric utility industry
Article Abstract:
The Clean Air Act amendments passed in 1983 included the development of a model for electric utility emission control, known as AIRCOST. The rules and regulations regarding air quality and air pollution laws being passed by the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Congress, respectively, employ the AIRCOST model in determining feasibility and effectiveness. Research into the validity and accuracy of the AIRCOST model indicates that the model is reasonable with respect to supply-side economics, detailed plant models, and resolution of technological and spatial electric utility plant problems.
