Hexcel to acquire Clark-Schwebel for $453 million

In a two-step financial transaction, Pleasanton, Calif.-based Hexcel Corp., a maker of structural materials for the defense and aerospace industries, announced it would purchase fiberglass-materials maker Clark-Schwebel, based in Anderson, SC. In the first step, Hexcel will pay $453 million in cash to Stamford Capital Group Inc., which had acquired Clark Schwebel in a 1995 management buyout. In the second step, Hexcel will pay $60 million for long-term leases on property, plant and equipment still owned by Stamford.

Vendex seen as good bet after KBB deal

Analysts say Vendex's acquisition of Koninklijke Bijenkorf Beheer has put the company in a top competitor's position. The divestiture of its food unit Laurus also added to the positive development.
