Article Abstract:
The statistical data of the fastest growing hospitality industry of Australia is presented. From 190,000 rooms in 1900, the industry has grown to 490,000 and well over a million bed spaces. The fastest growing forms of accommodation in the first years of the 21st century are service apartments (8.4%), hotels (16.1%), motels (17.3%), and holiday flats (5.7%). Hotels claim the bulk (39%) of the accommodation takings, followed by motels (20%) and serviced apartments (17%).

The household saving ratio for year 2003 - 04 stood at -7% on the average household income and if the superannuation savings are taken in to account stood at -2%. The saving trend of the country is discussed.
