The boom in private health-care expenditure attracted lot of small companies that wanted to cash in on the boom but the private-hospital operator Nova Health was the worst performer. Nova Health reported a loss of $65.5 million in its first full year as a public company, after writing $65 million off the hospital's book value.

The sops being offered to private health companies by the federal government and the opposition after the announcement of the elections have taken the health care industry stocks to dizzy heights. Some of the benefits routed towards the health companies are discussed.
