How CMAs use the Internet
Article Abstract:
A survey of certified management accountants (CMA) reveals that many of these professionals are aware of the Internet and are using it although they are likely not mining the technology's full potential. Results indicate that about 99% of the respondents use the computer for business purposes. However, only 51% had access to the Internet and 46% frequently navigate this network. The CMA surveyed reported that their companies are hesitant to use the Net because they are concerned about security problems and have not found any business justification for providing access. Computer use was primarily for spreadsheets (95%) and word processing (91%), with Internet access (51%) only a distance third. Electronic mail is employed by a majority (52%) for two hours every week. Internal e-mail communication targets are colleagues, bosses and subordinates. External e-mail was used to communicate with friends and relatives, corporate addressees, and customers.

FlexiInternational on the Internet and client/server accounting
Article Abstract:
FlexiInternational Software promises to bring client/server accounting to the Internet with its family of financial management software products. The first component of the company's Internet strategy is to provide the capability to inquire about FlexiFinancials applications via a standard Web browser. Instead of asking questions to their vendors, clients can make a request to their suppliers to verify the status of their invoices online by gaining access to FlexiPayables over the Internet. Users can also resort to the Web as an intranet for their own accounting responsibilities, accessing FlexiPurchasing and FlexiLedger. FlexiInternational promises to offer the maximum potential of client/server accounting on the Internet by releasing application components distributed over the Internet and intranets.
