IBM bolsters lines of minicomputers, its AS/400 and 9370
Article Abstract:
IBM announces several additions to its entry level minicomputer lines, the AS/400 and the 9370. The three low-end models for the AS/400 are the C10, the C20 and the C25. The C10 and C20 are faster versions of the existing B10 and B20, with twice the standard memory and nearly the same price, $18,670 for the C10 and $33,850 for the C20. The C25 will sell for $59,500 and fit below the B30 system, with 20 percent more power and five times the memory of the B20. Three new models, the 10, 12 and 14, will also be available for the 9370. Prices are set at $29,900 for the Model 10, $36,900 for the Model 12 and $35,900 for the Model 14. The introductions are intended to help pick up the low-end of the product lines which are currently under performing, as well as to reassure users that IBM's new workstations will not make the minicomputers worthless.

IBM to introduce various models of workstations
Article Abstract:
IBM plans to roll out new models of its RS/6000 line of workstations to compete with others in the low-end portion of the market. Some industry observers are skeptical about the late offering and say that IBM is offering a 'me-too' product. Competitors such as HP and Sun Microsystems have long had machines on the market. The new models are expected to be priced under $7,000, but they are unlikely to include hard disks or color screens. IBM does plan to offer a $10,000 machine with a color display, a 400Mbyte hard disk drive and 16Mbytes of main memory. The new RS/6000 machines should become available in Feb and Mar of 1992.

IBM to unveil several models in AS/400 line
Article Abstract:
IBM will introduce several new low-end models to its AS/400 line of minicomputers. The new minicomputers, including the a new AS/Entry model, will be targeted at current users of the IBM System/36. The new AS/400 models will include a new, easier-to-use operating system, and an upgrade path. Analysts say that by introducing a minicomputer in the $10,000 range, IBM could be opening up a potential $20 billion market. IBM will also announce a fast, high-density disk drive for the AS/400. The AS/400 contributes $13 billion in revenue to IBM each year, and the older, slower disk drive contributed some $3 billion in sales.
