I.B.M. executive testifies on '97 Microsoft proposal
Article Abstract:
In the U.S.-Microsoft Corp. antitrust trial, Garry Norris, an International Business Machines Corp. executive, offered insight into how Microsoft negotiated its "market development agreements" or MDA's with PC hardware manufacturers. Mr. Norris said that Microsoft Corp. said it would discount the Windows software it sold IBM if IBM would not include the Netscape Web browser on same PCs. IBM and Microsoft eventually reached an agreement in 1997 that didn't preclude IBM from loading software products that competed with Microsoft.

I.B.M. may testify for U.S. against Microsoft in trial
Article Abstract:
A witness from International Business Machines Corp.'s PC division may take the stand for the Justice Dept., in the latter's antitrust suit against Microsoft. The government has been anxious for a PC maker to speak out about Microsoft's competitive practices. PC companies, like Dell Computer, Hewlett Packard, and Gateway seem reluctant to jeopardize their relations with Microsoft by appearing.
