Issues concerning the Mar 22, 2000, Public Information Notice from the International Monetary Fund, regarding the state of the Mexican economy, are examined, focusing on progress made since the 1994-95 financial crisis. Topics include 6% economic growth during 1996-97, decrease in inflation from 52% in 1995 to 19% in 1998, decline in public debt by 0.2% of GDP during 1998, government efforts to strengthen the banking system, and continued good economic performance in 1999 and 2000.
