Implications of partnership sourcing on buyer-supplier relations
Article Abstract:
The popularity of partnership sourcing has compelled companies to cut the number of their suppliers while reorganizing their business relationship with the suppliers left. As a result of the reduction of the immediate supply chain, the structure of the chain and the number of its tiers have also been adjusted. Instead of buying individual components from different suppliers, purchasers simply buy assembled systems or whole sub assemblies. This has created the first tier, which is a new level in the supply chain composed of subcontractors. These first tier suppliers have the opportunity to weld power in the future because they are the ones involved in R&D, engineering and project management. Nevertheless, while many report a more collaborative relationship, many suppliers still do not view their customers as trusting and supportive.

Overcoming constraints on electronic commerce - Internet payment systems
Article Abstract:
Internet payment systems promise to be an effective solution to the problem of security in electronic commerce. An analysis of three Internet payment systems, namely Mondex, Visa Cash and BarclayCoin, that are currently being tested in the UK shows that such systems offer a higher level of security than those used in credit cards. Unlike a credit card which can be fraudulently used through number alone, the three Internet payment systems prevent fraud by requiring the use of protected systems and PIN number in electronic connection. Mondex and Visa Cash can be used in the terrestial world since they utilize smart cards. Barclay Coin, meanwhile has terrestial application limitations since it is a virtual, computer-based system.

The business issues affecting the level of implementation of e-procurement in small and medium size enterprises (SME) are explored and it is suggested that issues of leadership and waste management are of greater importance to SMEs than development of e-procurement capability to secure competitive advantage.
