Improving resource-constrained project schedules with look-ahead techniques
Article Abstract:
A technique to improve existing scheduling practices in projects is proposed to furnish an improved sequence where the activities of resource-constrained project schedules may be performed. Called the 'look-ahead' technique, it has been used in a situation involving the scheduling of required activities to complete the depot maintenance of aircraft. It is shown that in many instances, the approach successfully reduces the total makespan of resource-constrained projects in comparison to that achieved with the use of existing heuristics.
