A breakup of Microsoft? Possibly, but investors shrug it off
Article Abstract:
A Microsoft breakup might follow two scenarios. In the first, the company would be split in to a number of companies, each with rights to develop the Windows operating system. In the second, more likely, scenario, Microsoft would be split along product lines: operating systems, applications, and Internet. If the split up follows the precedent of Standard Oil and AT&T, investors will see the market value of their shares increase.
