Power without vision, or why you can't lead from the middle

The power wielded by managers in corporations and businesses is more flexible than military officers and technicians, but more structured than the managers of sports teams or conductors of orchestras. The power wielded by a manager, unlike that wielded by entrepreneurs, members of the boards of directors, or politicians, is more circumscribed.
