Inside implementation: some helpful advice can make the process easier
Article Abstract:
Management Accounting magazine sponsored a roundtable discussion to gain insight into the important conversion and implementation challenges confronting the purchasers and vendors of financial software systems. Participants of the panel event, which was held during the SoftEx in Accounting and Finance show in Los Angeles, CA, in Feb. 1996, stated that the person assigned to handle the implementation of the software and the length of time that this person is allowed to devote to the installation are crucial. They also emphasized the importance of planning, execution and support cycle in the successful implementation of the system. Vendors should also know how to help companies shift from a mainframe environment to a client/server environment. Immediate provision of implementation support is crucial to providing quality service to buyers.

Finding the right chemistry with SQL Financials
Article Abstract:
The Chemical Self-Funding Technical Advocacy and Research (CHEMSTAR) department of the Chemical Manufacturers Assn. made the transition to a client/server environment by implementing SQL Financials. This client/server financial system was selected because it provides consistency across applications, which helps in improving ease of use and productivity. Moreover, the program offers timely access to information and flexible reporting, and allows tracking of financial transactions, commitment activities, contractual obligations and budget information. However, the deciding factor in selecting the software was its ease of use and technological sophistication. The result of the implementation was easier access to timely information, and improved financial literacy and understanding among managers.
