Insider corporate intellectual capital and new accounting standards are both affecting the calculation of the share value of corporations and, in the process, leaving the small shareholder out of the decision-making process that impacts share value. Corporate earnings figures and annual reports are becoming virtually irrelevant to financial analysts, as they rely on their own methods of sharemarket valuation.

The highest bidders for the BT Australia Ltd mutual fund management business should make sure that its plans are accepted by BT personnel. Failure to work with BT's personnel could result in an exodus of talent once the business is acquired. A loss of talent would reduce the value of the BT Australia franchise.
