Interactive process quality improvement
Article Abstract:
An analytical model of the interactive problem of manufacturing process improvement is presented. The model permits the examination of the benefits of both preventive control and reactive control approaches to process improvement. The preventive control approach, which is a key component of the Japanese success in lowering production defect rates, is found to be the superior process improvement policy.

Pricing policies for quantity discounts
Article Abstract:
The production, inventory, marketing, and distribution aspects of establishing discount prices for goods are analyzed. The range of order sizes and prices are established first so that both buyer and seller save money. The resultant pricing schemes include inventory carrying costs. In more general models, a lump-sum payment by the buyer may be necessary to optimize savings.
