Internet music, to go
Article Abstract:
Diamond Multimedia's Diamond Rio PMP300 personal music player is the first product to be marketed which makes distribution of music over the Internet practicable. It is a transistor radio-sized device containing memory chips onto which music files can be downloaded from a personal computer. The aspect of it which is making the Internet a nexus for the distribution of music is the MP3 file compression format that enables the storage of a minute of music in a megabyte of memory. The music industry is concerned that the new technology will threaten its financial footing because of the ease with which such devices could be used to evade copyright protections on recorded music. The Recording Industry Association of America sought to block sale of the device earlier this year but failed. Since then, music industry and Internet companies have formed the Secure Digital Music Initiative, a trade group aiming to develop protection schemes for digital format music under copyright. Development of the new technology continues, with other consumer electronics companies including Samsung Electronics and Creative Labs developing their own prototypes of digital music players.

Lights, Sound, DVD
Article Abstract:
For consumers, the DVD player has become the best way to view video. It is much better than the VHS players and the picture quality is twice as good, regardless of the quality television set you might be using. In this evaluation, it was found that the Sony DVD-S7700 was the best performer for around $1,199. But if you needed something cheaper, the second on the list was the Pioneer DVD-414 for about $525.
