Is the box half-full or half-empty? top cereal maker fights to retain eroding share
Article Abstract:
Kellogg has 45 percent of the world market for cereal, but it isn't ironclad; market share is fluctuating with its competitors and Kellogg is making plans to improve the sales figures. One step was getting a new ad agency. Another step is cost-cutting. Another, expand the market for alternatives like its frozen waffles and breakfast bars before everyone gives up the snap, crackle and pop for bagels on the run. There is also speculation that there will be a management reorg to facilitate some changes sooner rather than later.

Takeovers are part of the game; any hot toy can grow up to be a unit of Mattel or Hasbro
Article Abstract:
Big powerful toy store chains and the whims of the toy-buying public can have their way with toymakers, so toymakers have been playing the game a little differently. They go out and acquire the companies that are making the hot new toys. It's the way the Mattels and the Hasbros have to compete with each other. The one with the most toys wins.
