Invasion of the Retail Robots
Article Abstract:
Leonard Fish is working on his latest invention, a robot which he thinks will replace cashiers in all types of retail operations - from gas stations to department stores to grocery stores. Fish, an inventor of an early automated teller machine, has built into his robot the ability to check currency at six thousand verification points, which will not only determine the amount of the bill, but will also verify its authenticity. Fish now has working models out which are selling to casinos and video arcades which make change, but he is after a much larger future market.
