Remediation and self-reporting in optimal law enforcement
Article Abstract:
A simple model aimed at shedding light on the prospective efficiency benefits of using self-reporting enforcement regimes and on the desired structure of such regimes was examined. Results indicate that remediation benefits impart two advantages to the use of self-reporting. First, self-reporting firms engage in efficient remediation. Second, the implementation of stiffer non-reporter penalties that reduce government enforcement effort become costless.
