About 107 civilians were killed and 100 wounded when Israel fired artillery shells at a UN refugee camp near Tyre, Lebanon on Apr 18, 1996. The shelling missed its aimed target and was in retaliation to Lebanese Hizballah rocket attacks on Israel. Israel says it will comply with a US-urged cease-fire.

Israel agreed to end its seven-day shelling of southern Lebanon on Jul 31, 1993, after US Secretary of State Warren M. Christopher helped negotiate a cease-fire. The Israeli military offensive was conducted in retaliation for attacks on Israeli citizens by the Islamic group Hezbollah.
