Analyzing tenant assignment policies
Article Abstract:
First-available-unit (FAU) and priority assignment housing policies are two popular ways that housing authorities assign applicants to available residences. The two policies are compared according to how they help integrate housing projects, manage applicant assignment probabilities, and calculate mean waiting times. Results indicate that priority policies can help integrate public housing, but that FAU can actually worsen segregation. The time needed to reach steady state under each of the policies is briefly considered.

Evaluating forecast performance in an inventory control system
Article Abstract:
Forecasting for operational decisions is studied by examining inventory decision making connected with physical distribution systems. Tradeoff curves are created between customer service and inventory investment to compare forecasting models. Research results indicate that the selection of a forecasting model is a significant element in establishing the quantity of investment necessary to reach a desired level of customer service.
