Northeast Utilities is cleared to start unit at Millstone
Article Abstract:
After a two-year shutdown costing $1.5 billion, Northeast Utilities has been given a final approval by the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission to restart the largest of three units at its Millstone nuclear power plant. The NRC verified that Northeast had resolved final "technical and programmatic issues" with its unit 3, a 1,150-megawatt reactor located in Waterford, Connecticut at Northeast's Millstone site. The reactor has been shut down for safety reviews since March 1996, making it one of the costliest shutdowns in the history of nuclear power.
