The great pork gap; hog prices have plummeted. Why haven't store prices?
Article Abstract:
When hog prices to the hog farmers are down 65 percent, but down only 2-3 percent at the retail level, there's something fishy. Now the Justice Dept. and the FTC have been asked to investigate the unusual price spread. Some farmers think the meatpackers are gouging them. Farmers don't even bother to shop around for a good price; they just want a packer to say they will take a truck full of pigs.
