Kellogg tackles soggy earnings
Article Abstract:
Kellogg Co., because of flat earnings and a drop in the breakfast cereal market, has changed its marketing strategy to include on-the-go or snack breakfast foods. Kellogg's 1998 earnings were $503 million. Its share of the U.S. breakfast cereal market dropped from 37% to 33%. In addition to maintaining high-sugar cereals, Kellogg is producing peanut butter and chocolate Rice Krispies treats, Pop-Tarts, muffins in the shape of bread slices, and fruit-filled bars. Kellogg plans to sell its snacks in supermarkets, factories, universities, hospital waiting rooms, and subway stations.
