GE Capital to acquire Met Life Capital for price that may exceed $1 billion

GE Capital has decided to purchase Met Life Capital Corp., the equipment and real-estate-financing unit of Metropolitan Life Insurance Corp. Although the terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, analysts believe that GE Capital paid about $1 billion for Met Life. Through its purchase of Met Life Capital, GE Capital plans to increase its real-estate financing capacity. This transaction is the largest in commercial-equipment and real-estate financing so far this year.

Capital Services, a division of General Electric Co.(GE), has reached an agreement to acquire Pitney Bowes Inc.'s brokerage unit for approximately $800 million. The brokerage unit specializes in equipment leasing. It will be integrated into GE Capital Vendor Financial Services subsidiary. The unit will strengthen GE Capital's financing business in leased equipment for small and middle-sized firms.
