Organized labor, despite its reduced power and membership, is becoming more aggressive in its demands for worker input in business decisions. Unions already have scored victories against Boeing and Bell Atlantic. Pres John J. Sweeney of the AFL-CIO, and various union activities are discussed.

New AFL-CIO Pres John J Sweeney is leading a nationwide campaign to elect liberal candidates. His first success was the election of Democrat Ron Wyden, who won the Senate seat vacated by Bob Packwood. Business people must do what they can to retain the pro-business candidates elected in 1994.

John J Sweeney is leading a challenge to Lane Kirkland's bid for a ninth term as president of the AFL-CIO. Sweeney believes a major overhaul is needed to make the union relevant to US workers again, but it is doubtful much can be done in the present political climate of deregulation.
