Legal Aspects of Redundancy
Article Abstract:
Redundancy is the firing of employees because of conditions such as the introduction of technology, loss in sales, relocation, or merger. The provisions of redundancy are affected by State Acts of Parliament (Australia), employee awards, and union agreements. Redundancy requirements center mainly on anticipation of termination, as in giving notice, opportunity for review, and minimum benefit payments. State and industrial tribunals can impose payments up to the date of termination but cannot place restrictions on the termination itself.

Solving Staff Problems: Fitting in the New Employee
Article Abstract:
Many personnel problems are the result of the unsatisfactory matching of employees and their jobs. Before making assignments, an analysis should be made of the task and of the employee's personality and motivation. Three sets of questions are offered which should be answered before any discussion with the employee. The first set helps in determining the worker's achievement needs and responses to that need. The second determines the employee's social needs and ability to interact. The third analyzes the person's power needs.
