Machinery industry
Article Abstract:
The machinery industry continues in the bottom half of Value Line's industry ranking in terms of investment potential. However, it has made some rating gains from February 1998. European markets are gaining, but currency exchange rates are affecting sales and earnings. Domestic industrial markets show strength, with the heavy-truck market expected to rise in production to 220,000 units during 1998.

Article Abstract:
The machinery industry is not expected to do well during the last six months of 1998 through the first six months of 1999. The US economy could experience a slowdown during this period and the Asian economic crisis is not expected to end. Investing in this sector is not recommended during this time period. Investing in a few stocks in this sector could present opportunities in 2002 through 2004.
