Machinery industry
Article Abstract:
Machinery industry securities dropped to below average in industrial rankings during the last three month period. However, financial observers predict that companies should show a steady sales and earnings growth in the domestic market but at a slightly slower rate than the growth in 1994 and 1995. A slowdown in the European market offers the best opportunity for U.S. companies. The Far Eastern and Asian markets will continue to bounce back but the Latin American market does not offer many opportunities.

Machinery industry
Article Abstract:
Machinery industry executives are expecting smaller gains in 1998 than in previous years, although a sizeable sales drop is not forecast even with the Asian financial crisis. Sales are improving in Europe due to the economic recovery there, stronger volume, and lower costs, and this can be expected to continue in 1998 and later. Investors need to be cautious as machinery share prices peaked in 1997, and the industry has become less timely in 1998.

Machinery industry
Article Abstract:
Stocks in the machinery industry declined during the 3rd qtr of 1998 and are in the bottom 20% of timeliness rankings during 1998's fourth qtr. Machinery industry markets, both in the US and abroad, are mixed, but the European market shows signs of growth in the near future. Investors seeking long-term growth can find several bargains in this industry if they are willing to overlook short-term weakness and accumulate shares slowly.
