A three-year inquiry into the events that surrounded Great Britain's 1988 decision to secretly reverse the arms embargo it enacted against Iraq revealed little evidence of illicit behavior. Government critics charge that the results were used judiously and are not representative of the report.

Government blamed in Iran arms sale
Article Abstract:
A Jun 13, 1995, report on illegal arms shipments to Iran during the 1980s found fault with several UK government officials, especially Treasury Sec Jonathan Aitken. Aitken has previously been an official with British Manufacture Research Co, which allegedly sold Iran 140 naval guns.

A 1989 report by Energy Dept specialist A. Bryan Siebert Jr. warned that Iraq was trying to obtain materials to construct a nuclear bomb. The report was ignored by officials at the Energy Department.
