Making trade-offs in the new product development process: a German/US comparison
Article Abstract:
A comparison of product development in US and German firms shows that US firms pay less attention to development schedules, whereas German firms pay less attention to costs than schedules. German firms prioritize time and improvement in product development. Thus, they are able to introduce new products sooner than US firms, which focus more on working within a budget and improving specifications. A marketing model shows that companies that develop and introduce products into the market in less time earn more profit than companies late in their production schedule.

Decision parameters in global R&D management
Article Abstract:
The location and character of research and development (R&D) facilities have in the past been incidentally influenced by acquisitions and other merger activity. The changing nature of global economics forces a new evaluation of the decision-making process that normally results in the location of R&D facilities in countries other than the home country of a corporation. A conceptual model is developed to assist in the location decision, taking into account the factors that comprise the competitive advantages of different nations.
