Management, competition and professional practice: medicine and the marketplace
Article Abstract:
Recent research has looked at the role of clinical directors, who are doctors acting as managers within health care organisations. It has particularly focused on this role within the wider market for health. It was found that clinical directors must give a great deal of attention to cost containment, and this means that they inevitably focus on short-term issues. The involvement of doctors in management has a significant influence on the distribution of power and influence on health care issues.

A relationship maintenance model: a comparison between managed health care and traditional fee-for-service
Article Abstract:
Traditional fee-for-service differs from managed health care settings in terms of relationship maintenance process. Utilization of patient-physician relationship maintenance process model revealed that affective commitment is more vital for patients under traditional fee-for-service than those in managed health care groups. On the other hand, satisfaction and continuance commitment are more vital for patients under managed health care group than those in traditional fee-for-service.
