Managers' perceptions of their identity: a comparative study between the Czech Republic and Britain
Article Abstract:
A discourse analysis approach can provide a very valuable insight into how Czech managers regard themselves and their roles. It is also useful to contrast these perceptions with those of British managers. It was established that managers in both countries tend to describe their work using management jargon. There were strong similarities between managers in both countries in the importance accorded to the social and human aspects of managerial work. Czech managers show tendencies to underestimate the needs of people. They focus on individual personal qualities, while their counterparts in the UK emphasize personal and interpersonal skills.

Matching managers to strategy: further tests of the Miles and Snow typology
Article Abstract:
A study of the Miles and Snow (1978) typology, based on three industries, looks at the effect of the performance of senior management on the performance of companies. The study shows that the size and age of a company and the industry to which it belongs are less important than the relationship between management and strategy in the context of a company's performance, and that firms whose strategies are very different have managers who are very different.

Corporate ideology - meanings and contradictions for middle managers
Article Abstract:
A study of middle managers within a large engineering company is presented with emphasis on their responses to corporate ideology. The development of corporate ideology and the impact on the company of the managers' feelings towards it are explored.
