Managing your career
Article Abstract:
An increasing number of employees are expressing their desire to spend more time with their families without necessarily sacrificing their current jobs. This need for more domestic time has already prompted companies to implement corresponding programs, such as flextime, job sharing, reduced schedules and allowing employees to work at home. However, workers whose employers do not offer such benefits must devise a flexible and carefully planned strategy to convince their superiors to allow variations in their schedules. To do this, employees may research within and outside the confines of their company to find out schedule arrangements made by co-workers and other firms. They may use the data gathered to support their proposal. Workers must take precautions not to overstate the benefits that they will gain from their proposal and instead must emphasize the advantage it will give to the company.

How can I write an effective memo?
Article Abstract:
Writing an effective memo is a necessary skill for managers because they are often required to send messages to other organizational members or to respond to messages from their superiors. It is important to keep in mind that a good memo is one that is clear, direct and to the point, written in simple language, flows logically and, most of all, contains the kind of information needed by the receiver.
