The prolonged economic slump in the maritime industry seems to be coming to an end in the 1sr qtr of the year 2000, as there has been improvement in industry basics. The liner trade has become more balanced after the 1997 Asian crisis and industry consolidation has accelerated, as well. These stocks remain risky and volatile for investors, but prospects have improved.

The year 2002 is not expected to be good for the shipping industry due to the current economic downturn. However, the industry is better prepared to recover than in previous years. These stocks are not timely for investors in 2001 and 2002.
