Medical services industry
Article Abstract:
Medicare patients will have new choices in their care programs under the Balanced Budget Act of 1997, which has the aim of moving more elderly into managed care. The quality of service will also be focused upon by the government which should benefit consumers, and the medical care industry is expected to consolidate under the shift, as well. However, with the stress of the shift to managed care investors must carefully choose their stocks.

Article Abstract:
Consolidation, with the aim of lower cost with high quality, increased at a rate of 18.7% to 1,183 in the medical care industry during 1997, although some sectors, such as assisted living, are expanding. Capital spending has become better managed and industry earnings are expected to improve in 1998 over 1997. Investors in the medical services industry will be rewarded for their risk, but these stocks are not for the conservative.
