Improved hand-helds still don't capture the magic of Palms
Article Abstract:
Microsoft Corp. and Hewlett-Packard Co. have partnered and introduced the HP Jornada 545 'Pocket PC' hand-held digital device. The personal digital assistant was designed to compete against 3Com Corp.'s popular Palm Pilot series of PDAs. The 'Pocket PC' is more of a reduced-size personal computer weighing 9 ounces and costing around $500. The Palm Pilot V, on the other hand, weighs only 4 ounces, has a battery that lasts much longer - up to one month - and costs $279. An attractive price for a digital appliance that was designed to perform the core function of an electronic organizer.

Microsoft intoduces a very unambitious 'Windows Me' upgrade
Article Abstract:
Users should avoid the Microsoft Windows Millenium Edition upgrade and wait for the consumer version of Windows 2000. The ME version of the software maker's operating system seemed to perform as intended when installed on a new laptop computer. But ME ran poorly when installed on a PC already loaded with software. Problems included failure to detect Internet connections for AOL, disabled firewall programs, poor audio playback, a reboot loop. Among new useful features were a System Restore function, an improved picture viewing application, and a basic video editor.

Microsoft updates Office Suite, but it's not for the little guy
Article Abstract:
Microsoft has updated the office suite called Office 2000. Although many would like to upgrade their old Office for Windows to have the new and improved version, it seems that the Office 2000 wouldn't really benefit small business users and cost too much money. This version is mostly aimed at the big companies and corporations.
