Motivation, it's the name of the game: when fewer staff have to do more work, employers must find the best performers and reward them
Article Abstract:
Australian companies must insure that corporate downsizing or retrenchment does not have a negative impact on remaining employees. The first goal should be retaining the best employees who can respond effectively to new challenges. When they do, companies should offer financial incentives and rewards to sustain commitment to corporate sales objectives. Profit bonuses help to control large salary increases that have to be paid regardless of annual results. Other strategies for controling staff costs include part-time and contract work.

Working wide of the mark
Article Abstract:
Benchmarking, or the practice of studying a competitor's management methods to improve business, is only 10% of the answer to the planning of improved productivity. After studying corporate practices, businesses must attack the other 90%, which involves changing corporate culture, business processes, philosophies, and communications. To effectively implement those changes, it is essential that those charged with such are also involved in the benchmarking process.
