Motorola to transfer process using copper to make chips to AMD
Article Abstract:
Motorola Inc. has agreed to transfer a semiconductor manufacturing process to Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD). The process using copper is an important advance in making more powerful computer chips. Copper can conduct electricity faster than aluminum, making it possible to create even smaller lines of circuitry on chips. The technology alliance will help AMD gain ground on archrival Intel Corp., and it will help boost Motorola's semiconductor business.
