Move over, Dad
Article Abstract:
Family-owned businesses generally have a difficult time deciding succession. Most of the time, the founder resists the idea of successors. This type of patriarch is labeled as either a 'monarch' or a 'general.' These two types generally believe that authority is synonymous to self-respect. Several ways of dealing with fathers who belong to these two types are outlined. Among these are creating an outside board of directors, enticing the founder to pursue another life interest and being involved in employee selection.
